The Writing Center at the University of Miami offers free, one-on-one assistance with all types of writing.  Online or in-person, the Writing Center can help you at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to final revisions.  The Writing Center serves the entire University of Miami community, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff, and is part of the University of Miami's Learning Commons. Appointments last 50 minutes. 

Mission Statement

To Support Writing and Teaching with Writing at the University of Miami

The Writing Center at the University of Miami strives to help all members of the university community learn more about writing and become better writers. Writers at all levels can benefit from sharing their work with someone who is both knowledgeable and trustworthy, someone who is not grading or evaluating them. Our professional and friendly staff of faculty and graduate students will work with you in one-to-one consultations on all stages of the writing process: from note-taking and pre-writing to revision and proofreading. We will also help you use AI as an ethical and effective part of your writing process.

The Writing Center also offers assistance to faculty members who would like to add more writing or writing instruction to their syllabi and courses or are integrating AI writing into their classes.

AI Policy

We recognize that artificial intelligences (AIs) can be valuable tools for writing and research.  When working with students, our primary approach to AI is to ensure that our support aligns with the guidelines and expectations set by each professor for that class and the individual assignment.

Our Staff

The Writing Center is staffed by writing experts from a range of backgrounds, including faculty from the Department of Writing Studies and Intensive English Program, graduate students from the Department of English, and full-time Writing Center tutors.
